If you buy the top of the range model or pay the factory exorbitant amounts on money, you can have the Multi speaker active "Bose" system fitted and whilst these systems are quite good they are certainly not worth the money. Quality car hi-fi suppliers like "Rainbow" make vehicle specific upgraded speakers that exactly fit the speaker fixings in your car, this immediately gives a lift to the sound especially if you use some sound deadening materials like "Skinz" to help kill the door and panel resonances.
The next step is to upgrade the amplifier to increase the quality of the sound, not to simply make it louder. The trick to this is to make a quality speaker/amplifier interface the factory head unit. There are many reasons for not wanting to change the head unit, after all it looks like part of the car and the controls may be on the steering wheel and the display may be up on the instrument panel so simply making it sound better is the key.
Audio Control make a range of signal processors that take the output of the factory car radio head unit and convert it into a high quality high voltage line level which when given to a decent amplifier makes for superb sound quality and you will be amazed that your simple car system can sound so good.
The final stage is to ad a subwoofer, this need not be something that blows your back window out but is that is what you want I'm sure we could accommodate you. A subwoofer adds to the tonal balance of a good system and again Audio control, Audison or Hertz amps with Rainbow or Hertz speakers makes the best combination without breaking the Bank.
